My First Hatching Experience!!!

Sad to say that I didn't use a set of plans! Did the same as with the coop, one idea at a time!

Started by attaching a 6x12 to the workshed!

Nesting boxes, then aviary.

Touched it off with a brick walkway! LOL

Couldn't stop my thinker and came up with a feeder with rubber bibs for near 0% spillage!

My 7 year old grandnephew helped me with the incubator!

So! If you're ever in Stockton CA, I'd be happy to help you build one!

Mine are Rhode Island Red Chicks. I have 8. They were hatched in my grade one classroom. I like your coop idea!

That is super fun... my son is homeschooled and I could pretend my incubating was a homeschool project but I would be kidding myself! Although my son has learned more than he ever wanted to know about it. Are you keeping them or do you have to find a home for them? I never know what happens to chicks that hatch in a classroom.

Just put the eggs in the bator 5 in the carton(air cells still rolling) and 6 in the (off) turner(with partially stabilized air cells). I am praying I can at least get one little miracle baby!

Call me crazy but I just went out to discover that my favorite silkie/winner of the most devoted broody award, was broody so I took one of my serama eggs from my incubator and stuck it under her! Is there anything I should know about using broody hens?

Aww, your lucky. I was going to use my lill' Silkie to brood my eggs (if she ever got broody this summer), but during the winter time she died. :(

If your broody is in the communal nesting box, you should move her to a more private area like a garage, extra coop, and etc... Here's a good site on broody hens: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/08/caring-for-broody-hens-facilitating-egg.html
