My first incubation...egg's are in Day 1 WHAT DO I DO NOW?????????????

Just because a thermometer is correct at 32 degrees does not mean it is correct at 100 degrees. I have several digitals, only 1 left that works right. I have 2 in particular (one is right on) that will read the same temp in an ice water mix (mostly ice, just enough water to measure temp) but are 10 degrees different at incubation temps. I have come to hate digital thermometers, they tend to be screwy. Also, different ice/water ratios will produce different temperatures. I test my theromometers with a medical thermometer. Does not work to keep track of bator temp because it has to be shaken down, but works great to check the accuracy of another thermometer for the incubator.

I also prefer analog hygrometers that can be adjusted when you calibrate them so they read correctly

And you raise your humidity (if I am remembering the question correctly) by increasing the surface area of the water either by filling another well with water or adding a sponge or wick cloth

Takes a bit of trial and error to get enough without too much sometimes. Have to keep an eye on it during the adjustment period.

thank you!!! but how do you gauge your humidity when you only use regular thermomitors that only show you the temp of the air??

My digital is reading 40% humidity and 99 'F at the moment. But the stock thermom. that came with the bator is reading 101 to 102. So that's why im asking all of this. But so far i think im in good shape to put the egg's in tomorrow...what do you think?

Do the salt thing with your hygrometer, it works. It will let you know how close to accurate it is (hopefully right on!). As for the temp, I would pop down to Walmart and get a medical thermometer (or use one you have at home) to double check and see which thermometer is correct or closest. Even if they are not correct, you will at least see what they read at the correct temperature and you can go by that (my stock thermometer reads 101.5 when it is at 99.5, so as long as it reads 101.5, I know things are good).

Good point, you did not mention if it was still or forced air. Could be areas of different temperature in the bator. Never even thought of that. Must be time for bed

This may seem funny but I to bought a thermometer/hygrometer
from Walmart it reads the same as the one that came with the incubator..Lucky right.. I went back and bought the same one it does not read the same...1 works 1 does not I would trust the one that came with the bator... But thats just me...
Good luck on you hatch...It is a learning process...

That is why i do the best i can with the thermometers and set a batch of eggs and time them down to the hour of how long it takes them to hatch and ajust accordingly. As i've said before the eggs will always tell the truth.
