Hello Nat -

Been reading your post. I'm halfway with my 30 Freedom Rangers, they need to make it to about 12 weeks. One got tangled up in the electric fence and died, sad. I have a 6 x 8 coop, 2x4 framing, insulated, metal roof, human door, chicken hatch, the whole 9 yards. I bought 164 feet of poultry netting that I put around the coop and just latch on to my Dad's fence for electric. So they have a large area to run around, forage, get light, and they are well protected from land based predators. They all go in the coop at night and I shut them in. So far so good. I'll try to take some pics. The little guys are already trying to crow at 6 weeks old. Pretty hilarious.

Oh yea, and thanks for the reccomendation of Meyer Hatchery. My buddy did end up ordering his CX's from there.

By the way, what does DH stand for? I see that a lot.

Nat - I also have to say that I enjoy processing. Nothing better than feeding yourself. I also enjoy getting good at it, efficient, fast, clean. I want to get as good as Joe Salatin, the 20 second evisceration.

your set up sounds great the issue with me is I dont have "that" much land to do it on as my 5-6 acres is spread out funky sorta like a hand-main acreage in middle the rest spreads out like fingers -and with the fact we rent our cabin out on our property we didnt want to put them to close to that for the smells would seriously cause a complaint!!!

Yea, figured it had something to do with husband. At least you cover both ends of the spectrum with DH, ha ha.

I also cut the butt off with the oil gland I almost cut in a circle so all of it falls off at once-I gut out the birds lungs and all with my hands too-so special equipment there...
