My First Quail

Awesome! Mine are 2 weeks old now starting to get feathers!

That's great Chaosdog! We are up to 7 now with three zipping and three pipping. I started with 60 so this isn't a great success rate as of yet, but I'm just happy that any made as many obstacles as we had to go through and we aren't done yet!

Keep us posted. I couldn't believe how they started popping out today. We had two come while we were at church and hadn't even seen any signs from the eggs that they were ready or even alive.

It feels like Easter!

Im at 2 chicks now, 1 pip for sure, and im not sure if i have any more pips. Bit hard to tell with the two doing laps around the incubator and turning all the eggs XD

We woke up with thirteen this morning and all the "older" chicks in the brooder are thriving. I think I see a couple more pips. Sadly, I think we lost one in the egg but I'm not certain. It pipped, and even made an opening yesterday evening but as I watched him later on, there was no movement through that hole. This morning, the egg is still in its place and the exposed membrane through the hole is yellowish brown. I'm not sure what to do with him now, if I just continue to wait or try to open the egg in case he's still alive or just count him as a loss.

Funny how they call it lock down and "don't touch the eggs again." Our little birds are bowling with them! I can hardly keep track of them because they are being rolled everywhere. I hope this is having an impact on their hatching!

How are you doing this morning Chaosdog?

I moved the first two hatches to the brooder last night so they'd stop kicking the other eggs around, and those two are thriving, eating, drinking, being fluffy, even despite a little fiasco where my cat knocked over the brooder. Thankfully both of them are fine, and it's more secured now. Made me wary to go to sleep though! But nothing happened throughout the night.

There doesn't seem to be any more pips, the third that pipped yesterday hasn't made any progress, and I can't tell if there have been more with the chicks having turned them all yesterday. I see no movement, though. 17 left in the brooder, hopefully a few more make their debut today.

I'm a little bit worried about the one egg that has pipped, it was around the same time the first one did [11am yesterday, 1pm now] but I haven't seen any movement. It's also on the 'wrong end' still on day 18, I'm trying not to worry. I keep looking for signs of life in the others, but haven't noticed anything. MAY have seen small cracks, but nothing convincing

Subscribing!!! Putting 12 eggs in soon, don't know what type! My dad is ordering them from "some farmer-guy down the street". Who knows what I'll end up with!
