I posted sometime last month about having some trouble with an incubator that was loaned to me and ended up having to sadly dispose of the eggs I had been dutifully watching over.
I’ve figured out the ins and outs of it and with success hatched a few chicks from my very own flock members! The first external pip that I noticed was at 5:00a on 9/20/22. I could hear the little darling cheeping and it was the sweetest thing. Following that about an hour later, another egg pipped. You can see my notations and air cell marking up to day 12 written in pencil on the eggs. It took a good while but that afternoon at around 3:30p, my first chick hatched! Following about 4 hours behind, my second chick hatched. Unfortunately, the third egg did not make it.
It is about 94°F out today so I took them out of their brooder to take a quick pic. I’m loving them! The black one does have splay left which I’m correcting and has shown vast improvement and is already up walking around just like his/her sister or brother. The darker one was the first hatch and I’m pretty sure came from one of my Australorp hens although I am not for certain. The blonde faced one I am certain came from one of my Orpington hens. The rooster is a mix with ? so their appearance was going to be a surprise regardless!
Just wanted to share my small success with the page.
