I have a Lavender Orpington rooster and Lavender Orpington and Sapphire Gem Sex-Link hens. I wondered how the chicks would turn out if I bred the two breeds together. Would they come out mix-matched, or favor one parent over the other, or would they be something else?
So in February, I started incubating my very first batch of eggs from my chickens. I started with 7 eggs but due to an incubator malfunction one egg was damaged and another failed to develop past the vein stage and died. So that left 5 eggs.
4 eggs hatched and one was a dud.
This is En my first hatchling, unfortunately due to a birth defect it didnt survive En was a full bred Lavender based on its coloring.
But three hatchlings survived. Ai, Cushy, and Crazy Bubu.
This is Ai. He took a black coloring and has peek-a-boo orange/red neck feathers. Its pretty.
This is Cushy. Favored her mother's coloring as a Sapphire Gem, but she seems more blue tinted than brown like her mother. It's like the color turned to gray scale lol.
This is Crazy Bubu. Like Ai, he took a black coloring, but no orange neck feather instead he has white tipped wings.
This is all three of them now. Sorry it was really sunny that day.
My second batch of chickens started with 6 eggs. They all developed, but three hatched normally and three were stuck in their eggs. I was able to save two but they ended up dying after a couple days They were Chico, Pineapple, and Tulli. Unfortunately, I don't have photos of them... the ones that survived are Phil and Lil (like the Rugrats lol) and Shinji.
Phil (Philip). He is a full bred Lavender.
Lil (Lillian). Just like her "twin" she is also a Lavender.
Shinji, like her older brothers took to a black coloring, but she seems to be a solid black so far, even her comb is darker in color for now.
I mainly just wanted to share pictures of my babies~ lol I think my Facebook friends get annoyed with my constant uploads of my feather babies.
