I have 6 hens that are 2 yrs old, 6 hens that are not laying yet and a 2yr old Wyandotte that is broody and her hatch is due in a week. They all free range but I am worried that the other hens may try to hurt the babies. I have the roosters separated from the hens right now and was wondering if I need to set up a 10x10 fence for the new mother and her chicks?

Some people like to separate their broodies early on, I let mine be. She did a good job of defending the chicks, but not all of them are like that of course. 10x10 feet I assume? That's a lot of room for one chicken. But if you have the ability, then go ahead. It won't hurt and will provide an extra measure of security while still allowing the chicks+mom to see the others.
