My First Time

Well here's an update... Dot and Fluff are doing great! Their wings are coming in now and they're chirpy and happy and curious

And there are now 12 more eggs in the bator. I've got my humidity stabilized at 50% right now with the help of sponges but I think I'll have to invest in a syringe of some sort for lockdown. 2 of the eggs are somewhat confusing though. They're white and make me wonder of they came from the duck LoL I can't tell. They're slightly larger than the other eggs but I figured I would give them a shot anyway. Poor ducky doesn't have a mate right now so they won't be fertilized if they are hers

Poor thing is so lonely and thinks she's a chicken... I think I'll need to hatch her some babies next season so she'll have some company. She constantly lays on her eggs but nothing ever comes out. Anyways, I'm on the official Day 1 of incubation so I'll keep y'all posted

Chickens? not yet, is right; you're going to love this place! I was googling info on hatching chicks and everything I clicked on, brought me to this site. I wanted to comment on something but I needed an account first so I signed up. I put my eggs in the bator 22 days ago(my very first attemp at hatching) and then started coming on here regularly to ask questions and get advice because the more I read on the internet, the more I got confused, lol. Everyone was so welcoming and HELPFUL! I was so afraid that people would bite my head off for being a first timer and not knowing everything I needed to know before hand. I thought I had everything down before I started it but like I said, the more I read, the more confused I got! Well, needless to say, I now have 8 baby chicks and a couple more on the way...YAY...

Hatching has already become addicting for me

LoL I love watching the process and seeing what comes out of the egg haha! I did a lot of research before I began and I, too, was sent back to this website every time. I love it here

Everyone is very helpful and understanding. And so far all of my questions have been either answered or I've been told where I can find the answer. Thanks to everyone for all your help and for being so welcoming

You can get a syringe from a pet store anywhere you get pills (drug store), and they are cheap 2 or 3 dollars.
Glad to hear Dot & Fluff are doing good! Love the names!!

To mathesonfarm, Thank you for the welcome! I am loving it here, I'll tell you I read & read & read before I even picked out what kind of chicks I would want, I'm that way with everything I do,( drives my 2 grown kids crazy) I thought well I'm down to rereading things so I'm good to go!! Not that I thought I knew everything but I knew enough to start!! NOT!! Until about 4 days ago I was putting the flashlight to 2 or 3 eggs every time I turned them, then read that candling to much could stress & kill the chicks!! I'd never seen that piece of info before! So I have to stay on here and read as much as I can because there is always something more to learn!! Everyone here has been really nice, and answer questions fast and do enjoy that very much! After this batch I might try one more, but I had rather get a momma chicken for the hatching!! Nice to talk with you!

Everyone is wonderful here! I definately feel more prepared for my next hatch. Sometimes you think you know everything you need to know until, uh oh...what is that! Or, hmm...I dont remember reading anything about (whatever is going on) lol. I must say, I did, or should I say, my eggs did good for being my first time! I have 6 chicks in the brooder, 4 hatched in the bator drying off and 1 still trying to make its way out! I told myself that I would be happy if I got at least 1 out of 29 but so far it looks like I have 11 out of 29 :0)

That is really great!! Post some pictures if you can, I don't think I can because I'm to new. Maybe I won't be by the time my hatch!! ( I have high hopes!!) lol
