my first turkeys

First I want to say thanks for posting all this info! I'm learning a lot!

They just came this morning! 6 BR's and 5 BBB's.

I was scared to death I wouldn't be able to get them to eat and drink....luckily I think I got smart ones. They have all already ate and drank. I believe I am going to love raising turkeys! I'm going to be checking on them every few minutes in the days to come....

This one is only happy when I'm standing over it making turkey noises. Puts him/her right to sleep...

I gave them a bigger pen today.

They're a friendly group!

Your pictures are gorgeous! Love your little cutie that wanted you near him/her talking all the time

. How old were they when you put them in the bigger box? I have 5 1 day old Blue slate poults coming in May/ June and have just managed to get a big box from a furniture shop which I will also turn into a brooder.

Thank you! I appreciate it! This has been great already playing with these little poults! They are amazing little things! I can't wait to watch them outside and take pics of them out there!

They were 3 days old...lol. I was nervous as heck I wouldn't be able to get them to eat or drink....from some of the things I had read....so I started them in a small box.....20 inches by 27 inches.....thought it might help the procedure. ...and really, they had room in there, but not much. Getting these little poults to eat and drink was super easy. So I set up that pen yesterday to give them more room to play and just all around be healthier for them.....it's 30 inches by 48 inches......tons of room right now for them! It's a indoor dog kennel cage and I lined the bottom foot or so with cardboard. I've had that pen for years and use it for all this type of stuff. I wish I had another big box for these turkeys like I have a couple sets of chicks in right now and probably like what you got??? I'm not sure how long they will be happy in this pen, but I will keep moving them up to bigger and better things....

That little cutie that wants me to be by him/her all the time is quieter now, but still calls for me quite a bit! It's a Broad Breasted Bronze....just loves it when I just sit here and it can at least see me.....likes it more when it can be touching me. It is neat! They all love to be right by me, but that one more so. It's always looking at me....lol.

Good Luck with your turkeys! From the pics I have seen, Blue Slates look like very beautiful birds! I bet you'll have a blast with them and probably can hardly wait!

One of my BBB's started strutting yesterday, but I wasn't holding the camera. Then today it did it again and I missed it, then was able to get this shot but it is a terrible shot...anyway...I found it awesome to see one of my little poults doing it!!!

Thanks for posting the pics they're all so cute. I have 17 in the incubator that are due May 4th, I took someones advice on here and put 11 chicken eggs on day 7. They say the chicks help teach the poults how to eat and drink, we shall see.

Thanks! I'm a turkey raiser for life now! Good luck to you on yours! I heard that too and had chicks ready to put in with them, but didn't need to. Sounds like these will be your first ones...I bet you have a great time with them!

My poults were out growing their dog kennel pen and getting bored.....so I built them this last night. I built 3 for my chicks and 1 for my ducklings just like it and are working great, so I built the poults one. I use cardboard on them to regulate heat as needed. I need to trim off the sticking out corners there on this one. I've had them 3 weeks tomorrow.
