So, we had an issue getting the 7th chick to hatch.

And she has a splayed leg and, maybe, curled toes.

Slowpoke was out of her hobble when I got home but I've put it back on. I'm tired, but I think I need to bring her in and do the shoes.

Since these are my firstfruits dedicated to God and since it's inappropriate to give a defective offering, I'm thinking that I will include Slowpoke free as a pet -- assuming that the orthotics do the job so that she isn't a permanent cripple. In the latter case she'll be culled.

(I'm saying "she" but, of course, can't know for sure).

It was down to just above freezing last night and the babies were fine. I'm nervous about Saturday night where it will be down below freezing -- 19F

I'm not 100% happy with the strength of my heat lamp (can a 250W bulb dim with age?), and am considering adding a second one if DH thinks that the extension cord will permit the draw.

The chicks are eating and I'll monitor their activity as it warms up today. I'll have individual photos later, but I think that I have 2 blues and 3 black.

Slowpoke was out of her hobble again but even so her leg seems to be under her more than it was.
