My Flaming Red Orpington Roo - New Photos pg 11

Well, I'm going to do a fluff trim on Suede and Meg to help things along. Meg seems to have accepted him just fine. He's not quite the raging hormonal teenager that my two BR roosters are, LOL. A mature man with mature ways...suave Suede, LOL.

This is going to be the longest 3 weeks until you can start collecting eggs for me. I have time to set and hatch a batch of Red's eggs now. LOL

I feed a mix of Purina Flock Raiser, Blue Seal Gamebird Feed, Mixed grains (wheat, oats, millet, sunflower seed and bran), cracked corn, alfalfa cubes, vegetables, grass, leaves, bugs, worms and my DH loves to hunt out barn mice for their dining pleasure. I believe the key to their good health and super shiney feathers is plenty of animal protein.

The cockerals we processed yesterday were beautiful on the inside. Not a lot of fat and big healthy organs.

Are the barn mice live or dead when you feed them to the chickens? I have lots of those around...never thought the little buggers had a use. lol

Alive. My husband loves to see them with the tail hanging out of their beak running around playing keep away.

I am so doing that next time I find one. They are all over in my feed shed and my darn dogs eat cats so that is not an option. Thanks so much for that bit of info!!
