My Flaming Red Orpington Roo - New Photos pg 11

Ok Angie I have a couple of questions. What color leg are you going for? All of the red orpington photos I have seen have white legs like the buffs. Are you going to breed out the black tail and create a solid red bird or keep the black tail?

Just curious

Remember not to look at his tail which was pluck by a nasty old hen.

That's like saying; "Do NOT picture a polar bear in your mind". I HAD to look at his tail. Poor dude - Oh well, he'll feather back out.

Gorgeous dude. Thanks for sharing!

I am aiming for 2 things, Adam.

1 - I want to duplicate Red exactly like he is. That flaming red color is as equally attractive to me as the deep mahogany of the RIR's. Flaming red with dark legs is what I am calling my Old Dominion Red orpingtons. I and everyone that has seen him in person want a flock of chickens exactly like him. It will be interesting to develop a pullet for his companion counterpart. I want this to be 100% orpington stock.

2 - Eggs from Meg and the RIR pullet I put in with him is just a nice little sidebar experiment to see what becomes of them. Mahogany with white legs would be awesome. Wouldn't people hammerthe door down for some of those over here? I want those eggs of Meg's!

I am not trying to duplicate a red orpington from across the pond with Red.

I want Red just as he is and am willing to put in the time and effort and TLC to get it. If no one else ever recognizes him for his own beauty that is okay with me. But with the numbers of people who want a flock like him he will be the sire of many.

What little I know of genetics is from owning weimeraners and I can tell you the chocolate is a version of grey or grey is a version of chocolate, its called dilute and now you'll know it comes of the "blue" so what next??? I failed my biology class last year...

Way back in the earlier pages you said you wanted to try for chocolate, so the grey that is called "blue" for chickens is where that lies, according to genetics in weimaraners...hinting which direction to find your chocolate orps;)
