I have a main flock of 13 hens and a rooster. I’ve gotten 4 healthy looking hens, but on closer examination I realized they had mites. I dosed them all with 1.5 ml of ivermectin cattle drench.

Later in the evening I was putting up my main flock and gave them a handful of grass. One of them seemed down in the mouth, so I gave her a checkup. I discovered that she had the same mites, so I took about 40 min chasing and drenching chickens who did not want to be chased or drenched.

I just squirted the ivermectin on to their backs, as I read it was readily absorbed through the skin. I’ve also heard that it will kill all of the parasites on the chicken. I gave the 4 new chickens a tub of ash and dirt to gave baths in, and I will set up a larger, more expansive one for the larger group of hens tomorrow.

Her is a link to where I introduced my new hens. Any advice/ corrections that would help my girls (and guy) out?

Those look like lice. They lay white clumps of eggs at the base of feathers that hatch every 7-10 days. Get some Prozap or permethrin dust and put some in an old sock to dust your chickens at least twice every 10 days. You probably need to also get some Martins or Gordons Permethrin 10 concentrate from Tractor Supply or online , a one gallon garden sprayer, and mix that 1 tsp per quart or 4 tsp per gallon of water. A spray bottle works as well. Spray your coop once all bedding is removed, and do the nest boxes and roosts as well. The spray lasts 4 weeks. Add new bedding. Here is some reading and pictures of lice and mites:
