My flock was fine this morning, this afternoon they are dying!

They tractor is just a run, half has a roof but they have a coop they go into at night. They go for my raspberries every morning on their way from thencoop to the tractor, but other than that they only have access to the grass underneath them.

Is sudden death a contagious thing?

No I don't think so their could have been a really scary predator walk by and they all got heart attacks and died chickens often die from getting very stressed or scared

We have a carbon monoxide detector in the house, but they are out in the middle of the yard, 50+ feet from the house in a very open breezy area.

Is sudden death a contagious thing?
No, not contagious. It could also be a heart attack, if that helps? But I don't think that's it, if three out of four birds died.... scratch that, if your birds are dying one by one, I don't think it's Sudden Death. Have you read about Marek's? Did they resemble Marek's?

Hmm maybe pipes that run through the yard or maybe the wind blew it to them. Not saying it's for sure a gas leak it just seems like what happens when some thing gets gassed going from fine to dead in a short period of time

Is it possible someone nearby was spraying their yard, like a pest control service? Maybe overspray could have been carried on the breeze to your yard.
