My Flock (Well, some of them) by Request

LOL, yes, Ellen, this has mushroomed, hasn't it? From just wanting a Barred Rock rooster for my ten girls, I now have 28 chickens, including my Ameraucana and Blue Orp cockerels.
Suede is pretty big, isn't he? At 18 weeks, he weighed 8 lbs already. At about 22 weeks old, he weighed 8.5 lbs, but now that he's 26 weeks old, no telling, maybe close to 9 lbs. He looks like he weighs more than that, doesn't he? When mature, they say he could get over 12 lbs. He's already bypassed Hawkeye, who is no small guy himself.
I don't have alot of pics of my older RIRs and Silver Laced Wyandottes and right now, they're beginning to molt anyway and dont look that great or I'd take some new pics of them.
Hawkeye is just the best flock rooster. He's laid back and sweet with me and my DH and attentive/protective with the girls. He never interferes when I handle his women; he just seems to know that we are in charge and wont hurt them no matter how loud they're yelling and complaining, LOL. He may not be show quality, but he's my buddy and he's never leaving here.

Hawkeye has my heart!! He's the kinda guy that should be on Americana type decor!!

Cynthia, Suede is just gorgeous! And HUGE! It even looked like your husband was having a hard time holding him, he's so big! What a lovely flock you have.

Okay, just visually (not knowing their personalities and egg-laying capabilities, etc.), I love the looks of Suede and the chickens in the last 7 pictures. That's a lot - lol! I seem to lean towards buff, gold and multi-colored birds - neither all black or all white. Your flock is beautiful and I'll have to keep in touch with you as the we get nearer and nearer to moving to our land. Thanks so much for posting these.

By the way, I went back (in time) on the boards and saw your post of your coop/shed and run. They are very nice. Looks like you live in a very wooded area. We have both woods and open fields and I love it, but the house is on top of the hill in a wooded area and I can't see the pastures or our pond very well. When we get other animals, I want to be able to see them, so I'm not sure what we're going to do. I hate taking down trees, but a lot of the trees are what I call trash pines - small, scraggly with few branches. Maybe we can take them down and turn them into pine shavings for the chicken coop. Wonder if it has to be aged at all - what with tree sap and everything. 'Scuse me... I'm just thinking out loud right now!

I love the picture of your husband (I assume?) and the chickens - so cute!
