My Flock (Wyandottes)

LOVE your 'dottes! We just got a couple SL and a blue, and I'm impatiently waiting to see how they lace out. :)

Thanks! I enjoyed reading about your flock and seeing the pictures of them and all your other critters, too! Here's to hoping your silvers laced out nicely, I think it's a lot of fun watching them transition into their proper adult feathers.

Blue wyandottes are gorgeous! I don't see them around here as often as the laced varieties, but I think they look adorable, like poofy little thunderclouds.

Trying this again...

The 2018 chicks are between 5-6 weeks of age now. Alex and I came up with names for them a little while ago, but we're actually getting to the stage where we can reliably tell who is who fairly easily now, so the names are starting to stick better.

"Arthur" is the name we chose for our little rooster, a good, kingly name to live up to, so we chose names from several fantasy stories and series for the girls. These are listed in pairs of one gold pullet and one silver for each pair of names:

Guinevere & Morgana - the darkest gold and silver of this group
Eowyn & Arwen - Arwen is our only single comb in this group of chicks
Sansa & Arya - Sansa almost appears to have speckles at the end of her feathers, moreso than any of the others. I'm wondering how her adult plumage will turn out but for now, it looks like she has a dusting of snowflakes on her.
Elayne & Egwene - Egwene is (somewhat ironically, if you have read the series she is named for) our sweetest chick! She loves to be petted and held and to perch on your hand or shoulder.

Now I just need to try and get a decent picture of each of them... they do not like to stand still!

Pebble is in the broody breaking cage tonight and she is NOT happy about it. The other hens are very concerned about her imprisonment and all crowded around this evening to offer their moral support. I told Alex if this doesn't crack her I may cave and go get a few small young chicks from the feed store. I'm pretty sure she would happily adopt young ones and if not they wouldn't be that much of a hassle to care for... I'm just kinda not in the mood for more chicks right on the tail of this last batch but I'm sure I would come around fast, I can't resist them:jumpy

In other news, Alex and I both swear we heard Arthur trying out his crow yesterday afternoon. It was tiny and squeaky but distinctly different from any other sounds I'm used to the chicks making. He is right around 6 weeks old. They grow :clap
up so fast!
