They are fast becoming my favorites for many reasons! Today my son & I were working on the biggest coop when the woman who gave me the three youngest chicks stopped by so we took a break so she could visit in the pen. The friendly lil "parrot" D'Uccle sat on my arm while we visited w/the bantams and then I showed her all the other flocks before she and her daughter headed off to the local animal shelter they volunteer at.
Only a few more days and the Silkie's are due to hatch! I wonder how that will affect the family flock? I am preparing a small double decker chicken tractor inside the largest winterized coop we're working on in case the two hens and the chicks need to raise the silkie chicks away from the main flock that will be heated and safe. Those hens get very growly and protective of their chicks and I don't want hate and discontent in the air...I want everyone to stay happy and peaceful as our long winter starts setting in...
