I admit that I don't cook every night; sometimes I get subway or order a pizza; and I have been known to use frozen organic whole wheat burritos a lot for lunch. And, I eat processed organic cereal for breakfast; and store bought whole grain bread and bagels. I also like to go out to eat maybe once a week or so. I don't eat the typical fast food other than Subway. I do work full time and have other committments and I often don't want to be washing dishes at 10 pm. So I do rely on convenience food but try to keep it from being junk food. But I used to demonstrate products in the supermarket and I would see what people bought- I would see people with their carts filled to overflowing and there was nothing in their cart that I considered food. I can't believe people raise their kids on all this junk. It worries me.

Last night I had a jalapeño sandwich roll from the grocery store bakery and a snack package of string cheese.

Of course it was just me and I was dropping of the truck with the check engine light on at the mechanics and taking the bus home after a bad day.

Tonight I made a burger on my new (mothers day gift) cast iron grill pan. After going to pick the truck noted above and finding out they forgot about the oil change, and yes just me and two dogs with BIG eyes eating burgers here tonight.

"Out here, we pick our own groceries"

I love that saying. We had salad and chicken alfredo tonight made with home grown chicken and lettuce from the garden. I do some quick fix things every now and again, migraine nights, sick days, or when I am really just ticked off at the world. My kids say there isn't any food in this house. They say that because everything has to be cooked. I don't, as a general rule, keep quick fix stuff in my pantry. If I want it, it takes a special trip to the store to get it. I don't like to shop, at all, so we eat homecooked most of the time. Now, i have to tell you, I LOVE the bear creek soup mixes. I've been trying everything in my power to figure out how to make my own from my garden, but cannot figure out what spices that they use.

It really is amazing how many people don't cook anymore... I went into shock when they started selling individual russet potatoes wrapped in plastic to just cook and serve. Really??? Wow... and folks actually trust that those potatoes are washed.

I plan meals so that I have lots of left-overs to make a lunch for DH to take to work. And the folks he works with tell anyone who asks that they have fast food for lunch while DH eats like a king. A friend of DS was here for dinner Christmas day and again a few days later when we had the big Christmas dinner (had it a few days later because of DH's work schedule). He said his co-workers were jealous and when I asked why he said because he was having two home cooked meals in a week. I figured maybe he worked with a lot of single guys, but he said most are married and only one gets home cooked meals on a regular basis. It's just... sad.

I see a BIG problem with the picture. Do y'all not have a Bill Ellis Barbeque anywhere around ya? OMG! What I wouldn't give for some eastern carolina style barbeque.

Totally OT Steve, I had to call the hospital lab yesterday. My doctor's office had ordered some blood tests. I was going to have them drawn today while we were in the city, but the dr.'s office hadn't mentioned whether I needed to be fasting for the tests or not. I thought it best to be sure ahead of time. Lab tech that answered the phone said no problem, just read me off the list of tests. I looked over the list and cringed. Dangitall, don'tcha know that I'd not only have to correct her pronounciation of "the word" when she repeated it back to me, but here it is a big city hospital and they even spell it wrong on their lab form! It's ARN! Not Iron.
