New hen protector here...living the Santa Cruz Mountains, CA.

I called my good friend Steve on the chicken hotline (speed dial 11 on my cell phone). This weekend, Steve and I are building and attaching a 6'x10' chicken run and also adding 2 nesting boxes and roosting bars to the coop.

This morning, I was sitting with my little hens in their coop and I decided that the bigger of the two Cochins will be Big C (on the left) and then there is Little C (feeding at the trough). Little C is the rowdiest of the whole flock even though she is the smallest. The Cochin sisters at 2.5 weeks:

The Dominque sisters are aptly named Big D (on right) and Little D (on the left) until we decide on some real names. The Doms seem pretty big for 4 weeks.

Chickening is fun so far, I would love to hear about other owners of Cochins and Dominques.

The coop under construction, my kids outgrew their playhouse and gave it up to the chicks:

Cute pictures! That is so great that they are living in an old playhouse. We have banty cochins, and they are great hens...really great brooders and good egg layers. I'm sure you will enjoy yours!

Here is a funny pic of one of the cochins with some polish babies that she hatched.

Thanks for the welcome everyone

I forgot to mention that I have Blue Cochins and Speckled Dominques.

Today while I was sitting inside the coop and holding both Cochins, both Dominques flew up onto my leg and I had all of them on my lap at one time. The Cochins are still a bit scared when I go to pick them up, but they are getting better.

I will get a cute picture of them roosting after they settle in,

Speckledhen,

I bow down to your knowledge of chickens for sure, you have some serious BYC post count that I can not disagree with...

Not my naming invention, but it was the folks at the our feed store that sold us the two Dominques, so I will correct myself in future posts.

I have a lot to learn about chickens,
