Great idea with the feeder !! What size pvc pipe is that, and can you fill it right up without it flowing out the bottom and onto the floor? Thanks

6" schedule 40 PVC .. its expensive. I then bought a small piece of very thin 6" pvc. I then cut the that thin piece from top to bottom. Now its like a huge letter C, I guess.... Anyway, I could then slide the skinny piece inside the large 6" piece all the way to the bottom inside the T fitting. Now the feed won't come flying out the bottom. I also put that wooden block to asst it that process.Great idea with the feeder !! What size pvc pipe is that, and can you fill it right up without it flowing out the bottom and onto the floor? Yes on a rare occasions. In these unusual situations, its typically because the timer is starting to close when its still light outside. Meaning, days are getting longer and I haven't modified the times. IE... Door shut at 5PM during the winter, as spring gets closer, it starts getting brighter, chicken don't head inside until closer to dusk. Another issue is when you introduce new hens. Sometimes the older chickens are aggressive to a new resident bird. Standard stuff. But I've seen them chase the newer birds out of the coop and then the door closes. I usually just keep an eye on things at first.Do chickens get locked outside when that auto door shuts
I thought that could be an issue when I first built it, but it has never seemed to have been an issue. Its availible to them 24 hours per day. We also feed them table scraps daily so its really not their primary source of food. Although, they do roll thru it rather quickly. I think 100 lbs lasts about a month and a half.I would consider adding another feeder or modifying your current one so that more girls have access to food at the same time.Lord knows they love to eat. With pecking order and so on, some birds find it hard to feed.
