My geese found a new toy

OMG, what kind of geese do you have??? Mine just go around checking on everything. They folllow the chickens then they will follow the ducks..... sleep..... groom....... sleep.... play in the water..... stuff like that. They are sure happy to see me though. You'd think they hadn't seen me in a few days. Cracks me up everytime.

I have two Embdens ... Walley and Chrysanthemum. they are into everything ... all the time.

My Toulouse are the busiest...I tossed 2 butter tubs out there this a.m. and the game was on! There are 8 of them and 2 tubs...it was chase, run, steal, flip them around...they had more fun than a barrel of monkeys...I have dog and cat and child toys...I never thought that geese would enjoy toys...how funny they are! I see more "toys" in their future...

I have 3 toulouse and 1 pilgrim and they picked my chair cushion apart by pulling all the cotton out. They found a small tear in the fabric and before they were through it was in pieces. After I finally got tired of picking up cotton every day I threw it away. Now they have found my red gallon bucket that I used to carry water in and are having a ball with it. My husband hung one from a low tree branch with a bungee cord and they will stretch their neck grab the bucket and swing it back and forth to each other. Its so funny to watch them. They have to check everything out.

I am going to go through our old dog toys (our dog is very ancient and beyond playing with toys) maybe our geese would like to play with them? Ours don't seem to play with anything around the yard etc. Was thinking of hanging up some rubber toys in their shed this winter to coax them in more and give them something to play with. Waffle balls sound like a good idea!

Hi there Linda! (LOL) We meet again on a goose thread! My geese dont seem to play with anything but the auto lighting feature on DH's grill! He has gotten to the point that he just takes the sparker out with him cause the auto light never works!
I will have to try some toys with them...I have a large flock of 35 Toulouse so it might be like a soccer match or something! TErri O

My sebbies have gone after the seat cushion in my chair as well. Not only that but taught my American Buff how to do it too. I went out and bought some toys that crinkled like a chip bag... no luck...... I got wiffle balls and tennis balls for them yesterday. So far they really haven't bothered with them yet. I even bought a toy with a squeekie thing in it and the material almost matched my seat cushion. The dog stole it. I will keep looking for something they like other then the feed bags. Yeah, they like mouthing it, then sit and poop all over it. Such goofy critters.

Hi Terry,
Saw the photos you posted of your flock of Toulouse - they look beautiful so healthy and well feathered. I am so new to geese I am not that familiar with different breeds but after being given an Embden goose and a Brown Chinese gander I decided on buying 4 Pilgrims so hopefully I'll be able to tell them apart. The original pairs 2 eggs which I hatched in the incubator have been acclimated into the flock now and Daddy's is taking very good care of them (I'm so relieved he took over) His offspring are soft grey and white with a grey stripe down their neck - much like his brown stripe. First gosling definitely has an orange beak but the second has specks of black through his/hers so I wonder if this one will have that black knobby bill of the Chinese daddy? Interesting to watch. Got the old henhouse finally cleaned out and new wood chips on the floor. I took some of the roosts down as the chickens will go in another shed closer to the house. Only the geese & guinea hens will use the old henhouse. Now just have to get a few bales of hay in case the geese want to nibble on some roughage along with their corn & pellets when the snow flies. I'm getting ready!!!

I did manage to find some whiffle balls at the dollar store. I picked up some tennis balls and a couple of dog toys. My geese showed absolutely no interest! I couldn't believe it. So, I put the balls in the pen with them and the ducks. I have to say, it's been quiet in that pen at night........ lol. I don't know what the deal is but they seem to be sleeping more........ haha. I just don't get these birds. Maybe they are afraid of them. Only they know.
