My girl died!

Last year we had to put down our 16 year old shizsu 5 days before her birthday, her birthday was Cinco de Mayo, We loved her so much and when i went to school crying a teacher told me to suck it up because it was "Just a dog" And I told them right. I got in-school suspension for telling off a teacher but i thought it was necessary. I know what it feels like to lose something very dear to your heart because it happens everyday somewhere or another. We are here for ya, so go ahead and vent all you want, It'll be OK, you just have to think that she is on the rainbow bridge right now, waiting, for you.

Only chick people and anyone else that has an once of love or compassion for anyone but them selves. We had a rough go of it this last go around (It's been a really tough week). First 5 of my meat birds died. I had the little layers in with them and I just think it was to hot for them. So I separated them and now we are all good. They are a week old and doing great. Then my wonderful Lakenvelder roo got sick. He was just doing fine when he got into it with one of the young roos (I think as Larry had blood on his spurs) I didn't notice anything was wrong when we put him to bed, but the next morning there was blood dripped all over in the house and I followed the trail to him. He was lying on the hay looking so very bad. I took him into the shed and kept him comfortable for the next 20 minutes until he passed. His injury was in his black around his tail, so we never noticed it. I've been so busy with the babies that I never took the time to see why Larry had blood on his spurs. I thought he got hurt on the chicken wire that covers the corn on the cob they keep trying to get. Afterwards I realized he was acting a bit self satisfied. Then yesterday we were busy moving things and cleaning up. I told both my husband and son to keep an eye on the babies to let me know if any of them were pileing. Well when I went up to the greenhouse to check on everyone I found the turkeys were all piled up. When I got them all separated I had one dead chick and 6 more that were in terrible condition. One had been scratched so badly under her wing and down her side she was bleeding. My husband thought it was a normal turkey pile. I love turkeys! And they seem to really love us. They get very excited when they see my car coming down the highway when they are out to pasture. It's a hoot seeing them run with their wings out dipping back and forth as they go. They are so very sweet and gentle. They aren't skittish like chicks and they are just so cute when they try to strut at a few days old, so loosing one was really tough, but having thoses 6 so close to death about put me over the edge. Thankfully I grew up raising birds, so all the remaining babies are doing just fine. The 6 are no worse for wear. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you try some animals are there for just a short period of time. Just enough to touch our hearts and remind us that we have such a hugh capacity to love. Luckily I've passed that capacity on to my sons. My youngest claims all the chickens and turkeys as his and takes his care of them very seriously. Today he kept a much closer eye on them and told his dad how they should be.

so sorry for all ur losses this week...it has been really rough for u...hope this week is brighter!

Thanks! We lost another one today. My meat babies are having a tough time this year. My son and I were in checking on them, we looked away at the turkeys, looked back and one was on his back dead. I think they are just to hot. I let the temp go down to 70 and they were fine. No more panting. They are only a week and a half old, so I'm having difficulty getting the right temp for them as everything in my mind tells me 85 degrees this week. The temp was at 80 when he stroked out on me and they were panting. I've tried checking other thermometers. All the same, so it's just the little fatties. My son and I both cried. Then we watched the 5 day old turkey toms strut and try to gobble. It comes out as peep peep peep. You just can't stay upset when you have little fuzzy butts around. How could anyone not just fall in love and want to protect those little cutie pies.
