My girl is dead

Hello. I’m so sorry for your loss. It always hurts to lose a pet, especially one you care a lot about.

Was there anything abnormal about her? Did she have any symptoms of a sickness or injury? Also, what time of day did it happen or when did you see it? Is she the only one? Has she had any problems before?

No symptoms at all and I let her out of the coop this morning and everything seemed normal. It happened sometime between 9am and 130

My one year old girl was dead in their chicken run. Nothing seemed wrong. No blood or marks.
I don't know what happened. She was my favorite. Why would she be dead? Could my others die?
Oh I am so sorry for your loss! It is very hard to lose a beloved pet, even a chicken. There's no way to know what happened without more information about all of your chickens, how long you've had them (are any of them new?). How does her belly and crop feel? What do her nostrils and eyes look like? Are there ANY behaviors or symptoms you may have noticed recently? What do you feed them? What is their coop and run like?

Whenever I lose a chicken, I will open up the abdominal cavity, and look for anything unusual, such as yellow fluid in the cavity, spots or tiny tumors on organs, a tan or huge liver, and lash egg material. Your state vet can do a more thorough necropsy and testing, if a contagious disease is suspected. Here is a list of state vets to contact:

Same thing happened to me on Thursday. She was a year old buff orp - my favorite girl. The day before, she had been sitting on my lap for a while and I looked her all over - no signs of anything amiss. Next day, she came out of her coop as usual, but I found her dead later in the afternoon. No signs of trauma.

I found info online on Chicken Sudden Death Syndrome. No real explanation for why they die. I'm chalking her death up to this.

She looked totally normal to me. She was laying her beautiful blue eggs still this week. I had nine girls, all the same age and always together. I feed Purina Flock Raiser. Crop seemed normal
