My girl is laughing

Hey Everybody,

I have at least seven hens that do that constantly every week. My older hens normally, sometimes it's the "egg song" when a hen is getting ready/already laid an egg.
Sometimes a hen will do it when another hen is laying an egg... My theory is that the one hens tries to distract predators, other hens & a rooster from the layer. Yes- it sounds like laughing and each hen has a different reason for doing it.
One of my flocks (9 yrs old) do it all the time. They are nine for heaven's sake! Obviously it's not a bad thing, they've done it their whole life. (Although I admit it may be caused by stress in the coop/flock... But I know my hens aren't stressed and neither looks yours).

I swear my flocks tell jokes!! I walk up there and they coffee cloche... Sitting in a circle beside each other making those laughing sounds. Too cute and funny.

Beautiful hen by the way! I hope I helped a bit. Most of the reviews on the sound folks gave above are very knowledgeable. Good luck and God bless!! Have a nice evening.

Sincerely,
-The Angry Hen

Thank you!!! I like to think they aren't in any kind of distress because I spoil them rotten!

Are your hens free ranging?
I never hear them clamor when mine are free to be out and about, ever. Yes, they might come back and complain about an occupied nest box, but that’s it. That’s when I know my hens are happy: they are quiet! Only small quiet lovely chicken sounds, the occasional squawk from a squabble, an egg song, but none of the clamoring.

Mine are occasionally free ranged... But since a Guinea-fowl-fox-attack they don't free range now. They are sometimes in a run, or let out with supervision. But mine are not unhappy birds. If they get too quiet, sometimes something is wrong. I used to their chattering.

I have a bantam that laughs as well and I notice that she makes it when she is excited, bored or hungry! I reckon it's normal - must just be the way that they talk - I think it gives them that little bit more of character!
