My Grandma's sewing machine ( thoughts and pics )

This one had a treadle but if you notice the white box showing on the back, that is where they converted it to electric to update it when they put the light on the back.

Beautiful machine, and I love the stories you have to go with it!
We have several old Singers from 1910-40's, and I do all my quilt piecing on a Singer made in 1948. None of ours have the great history that yours does, though!
If you're interested, you can look up the date and place of manufacture on the Singer website, based on the serial number on your machine.

I have a featherlite like that..wouldn't trade it for anything!!..Only mine has no personal history with it..I bought it at an auction around 1980..right before a quilt retreat that I was going to. I have my grandmothers treadle machine from around the 1900-1905 period..it has some of that "hand slapping" history too. I just love the old machines!!

You know,, since this one was made in 1926, I'll be the other one is the one that had the treadle that was converted! My cousin has it!

Boy, do those photos bring back the memories! My mother had one, a treadle, that dated back before WWII--it was considered old even then. I can close my eyes and see her working away. She worked for Lilly Ruben and had access to all their fancy machines but preferred her old faithful. Thanks for reminding me!

Cool machine!

my gram has one like that too! Hers originally worked with a trundle and was converted at some point. It still sits in the cabinet with the trundle below.... and she still uses it!
