My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

Maybe your LF eggs have a different shell porosity than your bantams, and that's why the LF air cells look a little small?? I've been reading some cases where mixed batches don't do as well. For me, I'm not doing my blue/green eggs with my Orloffs (tinted, kind of peach eggs) because they lose moisture so differently and it's hard to have optimum conditions for both.

Just a thought.

Maybe? I was running dry (25%) for most of the time though... Might try 25% the whole way through next time?

I wonder about setting Banty eggs with regular size eggs with a still air incubator . The top of egg temperature is critical with still air incubation. I would think the case would be set the temp to the highest egg. I also think temperature spike to the high side could be the cause B . Day 22 no movement Give them a little more time at least through 23 . book says 25 but I haven't hatch any later than 22 my self . it is the end of 21 for me and I don't think any more will hatch . Unloading the incubator and vet sexing chicks is a chore .still don't have a count . I feel like I have many right . Vent sexing and backing up with feather sexing . But If I didn't have the desk magnifier lamp it would be harder . More Pullets than Roos . guess that's good . Anyhow if you don't see signs of life by the end of day tomorrow pull the plug and set up for the next set :hugs sorry .

It is 23 now....
That might be it though. I just wonder why it got all the way to day 18.

Glad you have lots of pullets!

That happens more than you think. But here is the thing once again still air top of egg when you take out the turner and lay down the eggs you lower the egg some . So next set at lock down adjust your temperature to egg top . This is the benefit of having a second incubator for hatching . Incubators where the egg doesn't have change position work the best. Now one would say this is just a thought but it is a fact. Still air hand turning kinda go together . Reason being the egg stays horizontal for the inter time . The temperature then stays constant at top of egg . Make sense? Just so you know I'm pulling this stuff out of thin air

That makes sense. Thank you.

Okay, eggtopsied. All were dead, the wyandotte was stinky dead. :sick

No evidence of anything that physically would have prevented hatching. They had big yolk sacks. I'm leaning towards improper temperature at lockdown, which would explain why only the bantam hatched....

Have to wonder about that bantam eggs are smaller they set lower during incubation . I'm still thinking temperature spikes . But not knowing what your weather is like

. if your not there midday when they happen most of the time you might not know . but chalk it up to a bad hatch . they happen . and go on with the next one you did however run your humidity a little higher your second incubation. That was a good hatch check your notes and copy that hatch.

It does seem interesting they all seemed to be at the same stage..... I got one picture, but my hands were too dirty to get more without changing gloves multiple times.

I have plenty of notes, so I'll go back over them and see what I did different other than LF/bantam.

Eggs are here! 25 eggs total, (10 extra) and none were cracked or broken. Most have slight saddles, some have medium saddles, and two have really bad saddles. Not too bad though, and I think after letting them sit 24 hours (12? They are 4 days old) they should be okay.

Yes, they are in the auto turners, but it is not on, don't worry.
