My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

Well, I don't have any..... :/
I honestly think they are very dead now. I might wait another bit and candle again before tossing... Not sure. Input?

I'll just console myself with the EHAL and the leghorn chicks I'll be getting! :bun

Honestly, form your description of the egg conditions, I don't really see much hope... but it won't harm anything to leave them for a day or 2... that 1 might surprise you... I've had a few I was sure were duds end up hatching...

:hugs

Start gearing up for the HAL... :thumbsup

I emailed David Grote
About those Icelandic eggs....hope to get on the list....haven't heard back yet but I'm sure I will one way or the other....I'm really stoked...wife was like okay whatever you want....told you...I CAN'T ever remember her saying no......well you know what I mean...

I sure hope you can get those soon... I know those are what you want, just didn't know if there was any other type of eggs you were considering... ;)

I'm really worried about my friend Blooie......hope she's out of the hospital soon.

Oh, no!! Send her some well wishes from me too, please? I've crossed paths with her a few times and she is amazing... hope she is ok... :/

Will do!!

Last year my Cochin went broody and my wife said let her have one egg. Well I didn't separate her from the rest of the hens and she kept switching nests. I would go out and put her back on her egg. I never thought in a million years that this egg would hatch. I go out in the morning and what did I find but a fluffy, healthy chick under the Cochin. I was working on my wind generator going up and down the tower. I decided I would separate the hen and chick when I was done. I finished up quickly and went back to separate and the chick was dead. The hens probably killed it. My fault. What I trying to say is some times I think we stress to much about the hatch. These birds are pretty tough.

:hugs. Good night my friends...my wife has to get back up at five to go work so I'm gonna lay down....with luck I'll sleep if not...I'll be back up...same story different night....I hope I hear back from them guys soon....I'm really stoked about them chickens...I'm Norwegian...so Viking chickens fit....:)

:clap

That would be great, so I'll leave it for another while and keep hoping.... :fl

Less than a week until I can start collecting eggs for the HAL. I'll probably set 2 dozen this time, give or take a few.

One thing I did was candle my iffy eggs again at day 21. If the air cell was exactly where it was on day 18, it shows no "draw-down" and made it easier for me to go ahead and eggtopsy.

Up to you when you feel like making the next move.

Nothing from the eggs... :/

I started planning for the EHAL, gonna gear up and try again March 5th. I can't wait! :ya

WV, how are your lil quail doing?

Edit: I'm starting a bator build soon too, here's hoping I can get it up by the EHAL. :fl

Sorry I missed this! They are great! Adorable little boogers! Starting to get wing feathering, so cute. Hopping around, already trying to fly.
They are being picked up tomorrow and I've already started another batch! Silkie/cochin first, then adding a bunch more quail!

Officially on day 21 now...

If they haven't done anything by morning I'll break lockdown and candle.... I think if the embryo is still exactly where it was before (I traced the head outline) I'll go ahead and open it....

Awesome! I wish I could sell chicks so I'd actually have an excuse to set so many eggs.
I might ask around for local eggs to add to my HAL set, just to improve chances. Bad thing is the neighbor with eggs only has bantams... And my only layers are LF... So I'd have to combine.

you get an A for effort and a
. you have been such a good hatcher through the whole hatch attempt . if you can figure out where you can get eggs you should hatch eggs from someone else with your next hatch . My first hatch was shipped eggs so don't be afraid of that .I new nothing about incubating eggs .My hens always did it . and I only hatched five .one of those five was my SLW rooster which was is what all My SLWs came from now . 16 SLW eggs 24 bcm eggs and I hatched five . brand new FI incubators that first hatch cost me $175.00. Eggs came off EBAY and the ones that traveled the longest distance did the best

so wash the blankets check the tack and get ready to saddle up .
