My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

Hmm true, I guess ventilation is more important if ya have it filled to capacity instead of just 1doz eggs.
I'll think about it..... Thanks.... :)
Wait.... Where on the bottom? Hmm is it bad I have it on a towel to soak up water spills? Should I take that out from under?
It might be blocking them. Yet another thing I almost screwed up horribly.

I set 2 1x2's about 9 inches apart and set my styro on top of those... I think it helps fhe air flow through the lower vent holes...

Aaahh look at that pwecious call ducky face!! She looks like she is smiling. You cannot get cuter than a smiling call ducking!! :love :love :love :love

(Shoulda known that was a given, lol.... )

Reminds me.... I met the nicest duck today.... I was looking over some goat kids at a friend's, and he comes waddling into the barn, making the cutest lil raspy "puddleduck" sound! :love
And than he gets up close to me.... And starts looking in my hands for treats... He is the tamest duck I have ever come across!

What did I do wrong with raising my ducks? Almost all of mine were so skittery... Wouldn't get within 10 feet of me... One of them was a swetie though. Raised the exact same way.

First, Calls imprint much easier than larger ducks... also, you didn't hatch those out, did you? Hatching them yourself makes a difference... and also, the more there are of them, the more they will have a 'flock mind'... and some get more friendly after they start laying... individual personalities make a difference and sometimes breed, or even hatchery versus breeder stock...

This one jumps away if I try to touch her, yet she insists on being RIGHT HERE, lol...

I agree with you Rav....I just have Khaki Campbells which aren't really known for being good pets...but mine are friendly....and I have one female that likes to be picked up and talked too....I think it helps that I spend time with then also....

Spending time with them is a biggie... I also only handle the ones that want to be handled on a regular basis... otherwise I give them their space and respect and they seem to appreciate that... most of them know if I pick them up, it's for a good reason...

Treats work great too... I am a big supporter of bribery! :gig

That's a good idea.

that is good. the little incubator is designed to give plenty of air for a full batch of eggs . while you don't see it the air flow is there . the vent holes are tiny they don't need to be that big .

Good evening K! :frow
All good. It did climb up to 102.2, due to the beautiful weather, but I bumped it down a tad and now it is fine. Still pretty uneventful, exept for me discovering somehow my turner got unplugged... :barnie
24-34 hours, I'm guessing, so I hope they are okay. :fl
