My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

Yeah... Learning, slowly, but learning! Twasn't expecting much of anything with these, it is just the massive amount that die at lockdown that bothers me....... Last batch was terrible, and they were not shipped. And, I have set eggs from five different flocks with similar results with each one.

And thanks, I'll get that brahma someday!!!

Yes.... New chicks!!! One of which is a CCL. Did I mention I LOVE CCL?

I wonder some times if its turning to long or bacteria . Was a guy last year had a hundred percent hatch in a self made bator with shipped eggs from McMurry . Cain't remember if he hand turned but he used sterile gloves every time he handled the eggs .

I don't do all that but I try to remember to wash my hands good before handling the eggs . in a pinch I use alcohol keep a big bottle close to the bators . You got chicks that's the main thing . Not many of us have time to baby incubators . any why I left some eggs under a broody today and added some more . I rather not but she is the third one to go broody . Maybe she'll do better this time round .

So much for taking a break after these ones and de-stressing, be able to go somewhere without worrying for a bit..... @Blooie , are you behind this?

I think I'm going to do a test for myself sometime...... Turn 1/3 by hand without washing, 1/3 by hand with washing, and 1/3 auto turner.

I'm not hand turning nope not me to much like work .I am going to stop turning on the 16th day next hatch . just to see if it improves on the DIS count going to fill the incubator tomorrow. Need to test fertility rates . got a mega hatcher down south that wants to trade eggs with me .

understand farming time all else waits . I'm just filled the cabinets Sunday .Hatch rates aren't so good as I hoped .Piping more on day nineteen and hatching on twenty . Going into lockdown thier alive and die during before they hatch .I'm going to lock down a couple days earlier . May make a difference

I'm super busy go most of my hay down . so a bit out of touch .
