My heart is broke...that stupid *** bear UPDATE!!!! Problem gone!

I have read where some on this forum to have the men folk go pee around the coop to "mark it."

LOL I was thinking the same thing

I feel for you, I really do... but, people act like animals don't have a right to live. If humans weren't so grossly overpopulated this bear could be elsewhere. Would probably rather be elsewhere. When humankind is wiped out or has to start looking for another planet to reside on because this one is ruined, it won't be "treehuggers" or wild animals that brought it about. Just an opinion.

IF the people would stop feeding them, leaving the dumpsters open, feeding the birds.... if we only had bear hunts to control the population... then they would not continue to grow in dangerous numbers, they would not be breaking into countless homes, they would not be having abnormally huge litters....

Yes they are out though they never really went to sleep completely because according to our neighbor he had a big male bear in his yard *everyday* that it wasn't fridgid out. He said that it looked like he'd had a bad foot & that the thing looked ill. I'd seen that same bear one day here out to the side of the electric fence & it looked like he was groggy/sleepy & I imagined he'd just woke up for a quick snack & was once again thinking "hmmmm some chicken perhaps?" I think the electric fence must have made him think twice of coming on over it if he'd tried & once the dogs started barking & I started winging pot lids at him like frizzbies he got the message he was *not eating chicken here that day* . The electric fence has worked great but then last week I guess the battery was out of juice completely & needed to be replaced & of course 1 of the *many cubs who remember the picnics from last year made a show here*. Thank *God* the dogs were not out in the fenced yard because they're fast enough to corner it & then they'll be killed too..... The dogs are a great deterant if they're on the inside & the bears are still on the outside & of course they're a great alarm system too most of the time .

The electric fence is solar & so I guess the winter months there isn't enough rays to keep it charged? I'm just going to order a couple new ones & then figure out the recharging of them when the solar power isn't available.

I was so upset the other day I so wanted to start a walking program again & I could take an air horn with me but we see how scary that was for the one ripping up your chickens.....

I could take mace but then we're talking about having the thing how far away before I can spray it in the face?! It's sad we live in the country but we might as well live in Wayne. Actually if we lived in Wayne & they spotted a bear they'd move it out of the area. I think I've access to a cop with rubber bullets this year & that's what they always use to "recondition". & so that might help but since that cop really doesn't live with us now..... LOL

No I don't think you do "feel for her" or anyone unless they share the opinion you have. You've no clue what & it isn't going to be long before the "grossly overpopulation" of our neighborhoods is minus some people..... Bears are breaking into homes now *basements, front doors, windows, and garages*. I had a *cub* trying to bash through a panel on the *garage door* & had I not been home & scared *the littler of 3* off he would have broken in...... that was the litter from *several years ago* we've had a little of *at least 3 just here every year since & last year it was a litter of 5 FIVE & that was *just from the female bear that haunts our block. Last summer there were at least 4 litters within a 20 mile radius and THAT my friend is a "grossly overpopulation" problem! And the area that we are in does have a lot more housing however this area has not been forest land for many many years & is more densly wooded than it has been since I don't know when, because this was all farm land at one time & so where there are houses now & people there were once fields.... If anything that housing has made it so people CANNOT shoot them! A farmer has a right to protect his livestock & shoot a predator & then comes the clause of except if you've got a house within however many feet of your farm.... The population of people hasn't made it so bears have LESS space but they've made it so there is MORE space because just 30 years ago we probably could have shot them & had it been legal! When I moved here 20 years ago I had no problem putting out a bird feeder in the winter. I've would not *dare* do that now....

You've no clue what you're talking about.

Hey had you seen the thumbs down in the paper a few months back from the guy who had to pull his kid in from the bus stop??? You know the "B.E.A.R. people keep saying "Oh they won't hurt you." & I think this was one OF those people & they were PO'd at the neighbors with the garbage cans but the fact is that the can isn't what was the attracting but I think the kids *lunch in his backpack*. You know it doesn't matter what we've got out in the street or not because there's just so many bears they are all over now & so with all the kids waiting for a bus they're bound to happen upon the kids with food. They can smell the stuff a mile away.... Our neighbors a few years back were having a communion party outside on the patio & here comes this *huge male bear* up their driveway & hubby's in our drive & he's calling to the guy next door "hey Ed. there's a bear coming. ED there's a BEAR in the driveway." & the guy thought hubby was fooling around & shrugged him off & hubby couldn't cross the yards because there was a bear.... so the thing goes around the back of their garage & like comes startling up on all these party guests!!!! I swear if someone had told us this we would have called them liars because there was all this noise with a LOT of people there.... & of course as soon as everyone set eyes on the bear that was now *right there with them* there was screaming & dishes flying etc..... Of course after with no one hurt we all were LOL & we still are but someone could have seriously gotten hurt & all because they had the nerve to have a yard party...???? We all keep telling the Caterer that "you're food is really great & the bears they just love the wings with the honey sweet sauce....

LOL I was just saying this same thing & actually male/female I've noticed the dogs the first thing they do when they've "chased something off" is *mark* their yard..... I swear I'm going to start making hubby do this.

okay...so..its not the bears fault...AND its not the OP'S fault....so who wins here? sadly, i DO feel for the bears that are hungry. Just as i feel bad for the Coys here that are hungry and want to eat my goats. I understand its NOT their fault! they just want to eat!!

BUT...really, its survival of the fittest... and we have thumbs...we win!
