My heart is broken, Scovey Hen flew off yesterday

Pusskatkins,

I have only just read your comments, I can't contemplate how you feel after having discovered your muscovy mutilated - I don't know how I would have reacted - my first thought would be to find the dog(s) and owners and confront them - but, usually we find that they are not in the least bit interested in what their dogs have done, it's a bit like feral kids in England whose parents don't care what they are doing as long as it isn't affecting them personally.

My animals are my children and I would protect them as any parent would - so I do understand what you are saying.......hopefully in time your memories will be of happier times.

Plumtuckered,

I am exasperated.... Scooter should be where she belongs in your loving home - she WILL come home, she may be laying on a large stack of eggs so be prepared to extend your home to accommodate them!

Seriously though, I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is safe and well and that she is making her way home to you now bearing in mind that she is likely sat somewhere wishing that it didn't take 35 days to hatch her babies!

Thinking of you VERY often..... keep believing!!! I do for you, as are so many others here!

Thank you Hon, thank you so much! Scooter has been gone 2 weeks today and it's killing me. I've been all through our woods and the neighboring woods, checked every pond I can find and no sign of her yet. My Husband was born and raised in this area and he knows most of the people that live here, nobody has seen her. I am trying to keep hope that she's coming home, I pray that she's coming home. She's welcome to bring home a boyfriend or a clutch of babies, I just want my baby girl to get back here.

Michelle Muscovies take at least 33 days if I remember right to incubate. So being gone a month fits with the time she sat on eggs and hatched out the lot of ducklings. Good chance your hen is working on babies. I mean, our young hen didn't get the memo that it is still winter and babies do better in the spring! LOL All are doing well though and residing in a section of my chicken coop with their Mama. Mama isn't so happy she is penned up, but then I don't want to find a bunch of frozen babies either. I hope your lady comes home soon.

I hadn't considered that she may be off on a nest somewhere. I've been all through our woods looking in and under everything that looked like it could hide her but no sign. I pray that's what she's doing, my Husband has decided that she flew off looking for a mate and got eaten. Are Muscovy Hens known for going broody at a young age? Scooter is only 7 months old.

ohhhh i hope she's broooody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my scovy hen had layed a whole clutch of about 21 or 22 eggs at 7 months and hatched out my brat that looks like scooter so yes that could be a possibility. Alicia is a product of teenage pregnancy

at least they were married

Being broody does seem like a possible answer -- my hen laid her first at 6 months, became broody and hatched ducklings fine. I've also heard tales of inexperienced hens trying to hatch anything and being content with a small nest...when my scovie gal was desperately broody she spent 3 or 4 weeks on an empty nest before I managed to find her fertalised eggs

I really really hope that is all scooter is doing!!!! Fingers crossed for you both!!!!

start counting your days from when she left till 34 days, I have a friend whos muscovy hens go into the woods and manage to bring home 10 to 12 ducklings with out being eaten, so there is always hope.

She's been gone 15 days today...I don't know how I'll get through another 20 days ackkkkkkkkkkkkk! I'm praying that she's safe on a nest somewhere and will come home with her babies. If she's on a nest in our woods she's doing a dang good job of hiding because I've been all over in there on foot and on fourwheeler and no sight or sound of her. I think my grey hairs have tripled since she flew off.

I have every confidence that Scooter will be home with her brood..... they are amazing at hiding away, I had a hen who disappeared for 21 days and came home with eight chicks..... yes, she was a chicken but despite my searching everywhere for her I gave up looking as she was nowhere to be seen....!

I know it must be extremely hard on you to have to wait but I am SO confident she will return with goodness knows how many babies!!!

I do check every day to hear for any news from you and now it seems we will all have to wait until day 34 or 35 for her to show herself again to you! Promise you will send pictures of her with her ducklings when she comes home to where she is loved - with you!

My hair is getting grey now with worry over Scooter......!!!
