My Heart Nearly Stopped!

If I was a betting man, I would say your RIR got his injuries from a good old fashioned show down with a hawk.

I witnessed the tail end of a battle between my RIR and a hawk.

The RIR lost in the end, but he went down swinging, all the other birds survived.

The hawk in question was rumored to have died from lead poisoning, as he was never seen again.

I always keep a RIR around for the free range flocks.

Just my .02

I checked on my rooster last night. He seemed fine and I seen no wounds or blood on him. This morning he was eating fine and all my other birds were fine. A couple of them are still scared of anything that flies by but I haven't seen the hawk around since. I looked at the place where my dad said he found the rooster and the hawk, and I found some rooster saddle feathers and some feathers that look like hawk tail feathers, so maybe he was protecting his hens

I'm glad he is ok
