yup, I have them separated in a section of my coop. I have plexiglass in between the chicken wire. So far only Elly really seems to care about the others. She is going to be a hard cookie with the other girls. She fluffs up her chest and tries to chest bounce the other girls. May seems to care less about them. I wanted to try and quaranten them for awhile anyway in case of any disease.
UPDATE: When I got home yesterday afternoon I went to check on them and found May inside the can of scratch. I have no idea how she got in, but she did and the lid came down on top of her. Scared me at first when I went in and only found Elly looking at me like "what? I didnt do anything?". I couldnt find her until she spoke up. I lifted the lid and almost pee'd my pants. I laughed so hard I almost dropped the lid back on her. She was sitting down in the middle of the scratch, doing what looked like dust bathing in it. Gee, she was trapped in scratch all day? its a hard life but someone's got to do it. She looked like she had died and gone to Heaven. giggle giggle.....
Anyway, I took her out of it and put her down. They had been good all day (probably because May was trapped!) I took May out into my fenced garden and put her down to peck around and see how she was going to do. I was a little leary, didnt know if she would fly over the fence, run away, etc. She had no clue at first. Looked around like "what the heck????" I gave her a tomatoe that had fallen and her eyes lit up. she wandered around pecked here and there and was just as content as could be. She didnt mind if i came up to her, petted her, etc. (she was still in bliss from the scratch I am sure)
I went back and got Elly. brought her into the garden and she was off to the races! scratch, eat, peck, fluff, scratch, cluck, and on and on and on. It was so nice to see! May wandered up to her and cocked her head watching her. Neither girl minded each other. Elly has the dominance though, she has let May know it too. May seemed to chime right in with Elly and they had a ball so i let them be for awhile. I put them back inside at dusk (Elly did not want to go back in) and sat with them. they are both pigging out on yogurt, scratch, crumbles, milk soaked cherry bagels and what ever else I can find for them.
This morning?
I GOT AN EGG FROM ELLY!!!!!!! WHO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
and a SNUGGLE/NUZZEL FROM MAY!!!!!!!
Life is good.
