My hen and lame feet

Took her to the vet this morning and he said put her down. She is alert and eating/drinking, but has a terrible odor. I am supposed to call the ag extension woman that does chickens. They can do a necropsy. I'm going to give her another dose of the LA200 and see.
I'm glad you were able to see the vet.

It would be good to call your Ag Extension and speak with them. Depending on your location/state your State Lab may be reasonable in cost if you wish to get a full necropsy/diagnosis if you happen to lose her. http://www.metzerfarms.com/PoultryLabs.cfm

Where is the bad odor coming from—her beak or her skin, or from poops? Did the vet have any idea what is wrong? Do any of your other chickens have any similar bites or irritated skin? Lice and mites usually do not come in feed, but from other new birds, wild birds, and in straw or hay used as bedding. Once they are there, though, they will be there until your treat them and get rid of it. Skin or cutaneous Mareks disease is also something that was suggested earlier, but we don’t see many cases posted here.
Here are some links about Mareks disease:

Here is a link with pictures of skin Mareks if your look through the gross lesions section:

I did speak with the agent and they will not come out as is not respiratory. I can get a necropsy done, but was unable to meet them at the time when she would meet the van (I had to work this morning and was a drive to get there). The vet did not have a clue and admitted they both knew nothing of chickens OR pigs. Dogs, cats, horses and cows.

State labs are usually independent from local Ag Agencies. If you look up your state in the link I gave you, you should be able to find your state lab that performs testing - there should be information on the state sites how to send a bird in for testing.

No new birds. But plenty of wild birds, especially coming in to feast on any feed laying around. She is still eating and drinking tonight, but no improvement that I can see, not really. I suppose will be best for my son to come tomorrow and ut her down, although it kills me to. I really hoped I would be able to save her. I am carefully watching everyone else.
