My hen has a prolapsed vent !

Pics
. As long as her vent area is clean and free of dirt and grit that may affect the healing of the prolapse, I wouldn't bother. However as the above poster said, if she enjoys it, and it will probably help promote healing especially if it is an epsom salt bath, then there's no reason why you shouldn't!
I'll put in a bit of epsom salt, last time it really relaxed her

If the prolapse is out again, don't panic. Get her a nice Epsom bath ready, give her a soak, take off any dry skin you can see, get the Vaseline back on her, and get the prolapse back in. Hold it in for a while and see how she goes.
I hope it is still in, but if it isn't I think it would really be worth giving the bandage a go?
Here's hoping for the best!!!!:hugs

I would guess she is dirty because some of the Vaseline has come off onto her feathers and when she dust bathes, the dirt is just sticking to the greasy bits on her feathers. I have a girl that I am treating for scaly leg mites and her whole under belly is filthy as a result of the grease. If your girl enjoys the spa experience then it sounds like the right thing to do. Hoping that her prolapse has stayed in but don't be too disappointed if it hasn't. You are making progress and I'm certain it will eventually resolve with you and your family's wonderful care.

I will bandage her if the prolapse is out again. But i just hope it isn't and that she's still happy and jolly. I didn't want to bandage her, because we were gone and she could have hooked onto someone and strangle herself, you know? But I'll let you guys know what it is like when i get home

I was thinking the same thing, my rooster also had scaly leg mites when he came to us. He only had a small run, was always in the cage and with another rooster. But I quickly treated it. But he was also very dirty because of the vaseline. But i think my hen will also feel better after being totally clean. I was just scared that her prolapse might come out again if she sits in warm water

Okay so the prolapse came out again. There was lots of poop stuck to her. I emptied all the poop. We don't have bandages but I'm buying some soon. She's pecking around now. The prolapse is much smaller and pinker. She is making more noises again. I'm going to treat her now. But she is definently more alive than she was before

Soo I put the prolapse back in. And instead of pushing it back out, like she sometimes does when i treat her, she pulled the prolapse back in! Her butt "flaps'' i guess you call it:lauare also smaller and back to the normal size. She also layed an egg again, without any affects on her prolapse. It's still small. But i did notice a bit of blood in the egg which worries me, is it normal to see blood on an egg while she has a prolapse? I gave her a longgg bath and she's combing herself out now. This thing is dedinently better. I'll send some pics later on today. I'm taking a little break. But can someone please explain the blood on the egg? I think it's because of the prolapse, but I'm not totally sure

Thanks !!
