My hen has a prolapsed vent !

Pics
Soo I put the prolapse back in. And instead of pushing it back out, like she sometimes does when i treat her, she pulled the prolapse back in! Her butt "flaps'' i guess you call it:lauare also smaller and back to the normal size. She also layed an egg again, without any affects on her prolapse. It's still small. But i did notice a bit of blood in the egg which worries me, is it normal to see blood on an egg while she has a prolapse? I gave her a longgg bath and she's combing herself out now. This thing is dedinently better. I'll send some pics later on today. I'm taking a little break. But can someone please explain the blood on the egg? I think it's because of the prolapse, but I'm not totally sure

Thanks !!
Glad to hear you made it back home safely.
It does sound like she is slowly healing!

I think that's all positive news really :)
She (and you!) has had a hard time and it's expected it's going to take some time for her to come right again. It's slowly but surely, just stay on it and make sure she stays eating and drinking. Remember not to let that prolapse stay hanging out, and don't let it dry out.

You have gotten it to a place where it is coming out much less often
You have gotten it to a place where there is no dry skin
You have gotten it to a place where it is not immediately popping back out......It sounds like, right now, everything is ok :thumbsup
I bet she was glad to see you! Welcome home :hugs

Thank you for the positive message :hugsshe is alot better amd im so glad. I've told other people of what i have done, and other people who own chickens have said that they will take their hens to me is they ever get a prolapse, it made me feel very special.

Unfortunately my hen made a few big loose poops today. It looks like the normal color, brown with the bit of white, but it was very runny and she had to push very hard to get it out, and then her prolapse popped out again, but i put it back. It only pops out if she makes those very loose poops or lays an egg. I'll send a pic if you want to give me some advise about it. But furthur on she is good. Thanks to EVERYONE who has supported me through this mission - mentally and physically . I couldn't have done this without you. I don't know how to repay you, but for now all i can give is a big thank you !:highfive:

:highfive: Straight back at you - you're the one who has done all the work!!

You deserve to have those things said to you by people, you have worked hard at this and not ever given up when others may have.

By all means post photos, always a good thing in my opinion.

What is she getting to eat now? Does she still have eggshells available? I would keep those available to her all the time if you can at all! They will help those muscles pull that prolapse back.

I am holding her feed back for a while. I gave her some wheatbix this morning. It's a cereal that i read online is actually very good for chickens and their health. I'll be giving her that for a while to prevent laying. She is also making alot of noises again and pooping normally. I'm so happy for my little girl! I'll be giving her a bit if a break from the baths and will again in about a week or so on a hot day. Her feathers are still dirty and are a bit broken from all the baths. But further on she is totally fine !!

Great to hear she is doing well :)
Just remember even if you want to prevent her from laying, she still needs her nutrients to help her mend. I would feed her her proper food at this time but if you are only going to give her weetabix think about adding nutrients to her water so she doesn't end up ill. She has been through a difficult time but she seems like a fighter!
I hope everything continues to improve :)

Ahh okay thanks for the advice ! Again... she's doing very well. The prolapse stayed in all day again. She's also pooping which is great. She went to bed now. She has pecked at the grass and plants all day long today. She's making alot of noises, like the sounds they make if they have chicks. She also makes these lomg screechy scream noises when i walk up to her. She's also very alive again - no droopiness ! I'll keep you guys updated

I'm so happy this prolapse is finally staying in !!:celebrate
