hi... i've noticed for more than a week that one of my 9 hens has a gurgling or wheezing sound when she breathes. like she has phlegm or something in the way that's making the noise when she breathes. she often parts her beak when breathing and making the sound. she is eating and drinking normally. she does seem a little labored from the wheezing. i live in the desert, so there is no humidity to speak of. temps are perfect now in the high 70's. one of my other chickens did this exact same thing about 6 months ago and although she recovered, it's almost as if she had a "chicken stoke" (i know that's not what happened). when she finally recovered, one eye rarely opens, and one part of her body droops and her wing is carried lower. she still lays and gets along well and has no more wheezing. again, this may be totally coincidental and it could have been from something else. but, i'm saying this because i know i don't have to segregate her. it didn't spread when the other hen had these same symptoms and with my current hen doing it for over a week, still none of the others have it. she has no nasal discharge, no runny eyes or anything. she doesn't have worms or lice or mites. any idea what this might be? i hate to hear her sound so bad. she's not able to make her normal sounds either - it's as if her voice is gone!
