Here is a picture:

It seems to have come on suddenly, the other hens do not have it. She seems a bit punked out too. Any ideas what it is and how to treat it? Thanks so much!

I can't see the picture very well, but I am guessing maybe it could be fowl pox. A clear close-up of the head would be better to get more help.

I also think fowl pox but can't see too well in the picture but from what I can see yes that looks like fowl pox
Good luck hope this helps and best wishes.

Thanks for the responses. Here is a better picture. It doesn't look like raised bumps? More scabby. Thanks again!

I would try raw honey, Manuka Honey if you can get it...from a health food store. Or Sovereign Silver Gel also from a health food store. They are both antimicrobial, antiviral and antiparasitic, all without being toxic. I hope this helps.

I am going to go along with Realsis and Eggcessive on the dry fowl pox right now, but you need to keep an eye on this. Fowl pox spreads through a flock slowly and if it is pox all will eventually get it. There is no cure for it. Blu-Kote works well to keep the lesions from getting pecked at and getting infected. Tractor Supply and a few of the farm supply stores sell this in a bottle with a dauber. This is the easiest way to get it where you need it, but don't use the dauber, use a q-tip or soft watercolor brush. the reason i say to use the Blu-Kote is because it will kill any of the virus that is being shed through the scabs and the other birds eating them will not be getting the live virus in their systems. If you have it, I would be adding Oxine to their water. This will also help with keeping the spread down. If you don't you can try a 250mg vitamin C tablet in a gallon of water.the vitamin C will kill some viruses, not sure if it will kill all of this or just kick it back some, but it's worth a try. I would use this dose for a week and then cut the pill in half so they are getting 125 mgs per gallon for another 3 weeks. It won't hurt them and can only help. I would also think about giving a poultry vitamin in their water as well. As you can tell, this one feels miserable, vitamins will help boost it's immune system and help fight this off quicker.

Going with the thought this is pox [there are other things that can cause this type of lesion and you should do a search] you will need to make sure as the other birds come down with it that they don't get the wet form of this. This isn't cool if it happens. Dry form won't kill, wet form can. Don't worry about it, just keep it in mind and if your birds should show respiratory issues, do a search on the wet form of pox and treat accordingly.

I am adding this info about the Oxine for you. You don't need the fogger, a simple 1 gallon garden sprayer works just fine and you can use that to mist all of your birds when they are on the roost at night. This stuff is great! So many uses and 'cures'.

I have the very same thing happening with one of my hens! Did you get any answer and more importantly and ideas on how to treat? I thought it might have been something to do with mites so shook powder all over!

Maybe you can use a simple method. Give it a small lizard, ussually hanging on your house wall. Once a day. Your chicken will be healthy after 3 days... Good luck..
