My hen is brooding in the Garage - about 10’off the ground. Will the chicks float to the ground?

Thanks for your concern re Hurricane Lane. We have managable wind and rain right here where I am. There is flooding on other parts of this Big Island, but it shouldn't effect us here.
Hatchlings doing well. It's heartwarming to watch mom teach them how to feed themselves. I don't think all are going to survive. Out of 9 eggs, just one didn't hatch, and one chick died yesterday after mama kicked it out from under her. Today there's another one I'm sure won't make it, and another potential failure. However the other 5 are looking pretty good.
The mites are terrrible. I had an infestation a couple of years ago. I'm going to get the permetherin dust when I go to Waimea tomorrow (hopefully). I am using some food grade diatomaceous earth on the pine shavings for now. I guess the mites came when she was sitting on the eggs for 3 weeks and I didn't change the pine shavings. Lesson learned! - One of many!
Thanks for all the help you've given me. It takes a village!

Mites can kill babies quickly. Hopefully you can save some of them.

@Pyxis @casportpony @azygous @Eggcessive is dusting Mama hen with permetherin dust the way to go for body mites?

I dusted the mom with poultry dust (permethrin). I made sure they had complete new bedding also tossed with the dust. When dusting chicks it's best to just give a small amount away from their face. I didn't have any issues with it. myself.
