My hen is crowing?

My little rescue chicken from July 5th is trying to crow? She was approximately 5 to 8 weeks when I found her. The past 2 weeks we've been hearing these weird noises from the coop and today I heard it LOUD AND CLEAR. LOL. She was trying to crow! I understand with no rooster that hens will try it??
My 9 week old cockerel crowed for the first time this morning. I had questions because of the comb as to whether or not it was a hen as recently as last weekend. I wouldn't have believed it until I turned around, went back and looked at it him and he did it again!! He's an Easter Egger and Silver Laced Wyandotte mix and the closest one to the camera in the picture.

Pepper is a Rooster without a doubt.

Not a crowing hen.

:D
Yes...I know... We live in a city where we can have chickens but the folks that do usually have larger properties than what we have. My yard is pretty small...its block wall all around. I have 3 backyard neighbors that I worry about bothering with his crowing early in the morning. With this high heat lately everyone has their windows closed

Start thinking about rehoming him on Craigslist or feed store. The more you wait the more crowing will occur.

I have chicks a little bit older than your and they do flock together, 3 cockerels 3 pullets.

Everyone has double paned gas windows so the sounds are muffled. My husband is usually up when he starts crowing. He gives him some corn and he stops crowing. He rarely crows during the day, its early morning I worry.

With my roosters, because I had a neighbour complain (after 15 years of chicken keeping, go figure), I now put them all in boxes in the garage overnight and let them out in the morning at a sensible time. The local Council were happy with that measure.

Have you got an outbuilding, a basement, etc you can put him in just for the night time?

A large cardboard box with a piece of wood pushed through the bottom half for a perch shavings in the base, and ventilation holes in the top, placed somewhere dark where the sound is also muffled, works great as a "rooster keeper".
