My hen is laying eggs in my kitchen

I’m new to being a chicken tender so I just want to make sure I’m not creating a problem for myself. I have allowed my chickens to come in my house to say hi throughout the day. However, one hen started laying her eggs in a basket in my kitchen. I’m not complaining about the impecKable service, but the kitchen can be busy at the time she’d prefer to lay. If she doesn’t have access to “her” basket will this deter her from laying eggs?

I don’t want her to become egg bound.

To note, I have plenty of nesting boxes in the coop but when I’m home I free range them in my backyard and the hens find other places to lay, this one just happens to like the kitchen.

Can you put "her" basket somewhere else besides the kitchen? (Or get her one of the same or similar baskets?) I mean, it's super smart of her to know exactly where to put them so you don't have to make an extra trip, but if you don't want her there...

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Yes they have their favorite spots to lay and once they get hooked on a place, they don't like to do their laying business elsewhere! Moving the basket may help, maybe work it closer to the door each day, one day it will be outside.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!
