My hen is no longer broody! She has multiple eggs of different stages under her and I have no idea what to do! She has suddenly stopped being broody. She has been off the nest for about an hour or less. She won't go back on the nest now. I don't have an incubator or anything like that. What should I do? I have an electric blanket and a heat lamp and that's about it. What should I do? What can I do?

Oh boy sorry to hear your predicament ! My kids made an incubator from a little Styrofoam cooler, a lamp with a 25 watt bulb, a six dollar temp and humidity reader from walmart, wire mesh for the bottom (raised a few inches from bottom) and an 8x10 picture frame glass for the top. It has worked and we just hatched our first egg today. There are lots of links and ideas online for one and I used an idea from youtube. I wish I knew more about your problem but this is our first time hatching. Good luck and keep us posted.

deep breath. OK you said she has been off for an hour. they do that some times. I have had some go as long as 4 hours and then return. is there anything in the nesting are other than YOU up seting her ?

Ok thanks everyone. Nothing is bothering her at all. She just up and left her eggs. I will try and make do with what I have.

I had a hen do that and I went in and fluffed up her nest and moved the eggs into a pile, oh and cursed at her. She sat back down, and now we are on day 10.

I have a BR that went broody the other day, I have been adding eggs to hers...anyways she left the nest, went to eat and stretch like normal, then was hanging out on the roost...like she was quitting! I gave her he-double hockey sticks and she went back to the nest. I think we are all paranoid but we have to remember they instinctively know what to do. Because the day was warm I guess she knew how long she could be gone. Now today my BO, who is also sitting a bunch of eggs did not leave the nest today at all...it was chilly. Hope that is all that is going on. I read on here somewhere that they put the eggs in a bowl with a small bowl of water and a light to keep the temp up along with a thermometer when their broody quit and It worked...so worst case senario you could try that? GOOD LUCK
