My hen layed a $3000 egg

Opa, my girls are laying at about $145 a dozen after TWO years....

That great to hear. That means I might finally start to see some slight improvement. Oh shucks, I just remembered I'm adding an addition to my main coop so I guess the eggs will go back up to the $250 range for awhile.

Congratulations on your first egg!

Now, you guys, you need to factor in the savings on medical bills in the future because you get daily exercise going out to the coop, hauling feed to the coop, etc., and the stress relief from watching Chicken TV.

YOU MEAN WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BREAK EVEN AND MAKE MONEY ON EGGS ???????? OH MY! NO ONE TOLD ME THAT! I thought it was a contest to see who could spend the most money per egg. I think the $3,000 egg wins.

Joe Bryant's first egg was around $10k if I remember correctly.

Our first egg was around $700. Maybe another $100 in feed over the past year. Since we've gotten about 30 dozen eggs to date, the eggs are running about $27/doz. We'll need another 2040 eggs (170 doz) to hit $4/doz. Once our youngsters start laying in the next couple of months, we could that in, oh, 41 weeks.

By which time the current adults will past their prime and slowing down.

We really shouldn't do the math. Seriously.

Congratulations on your first egg. I'm sure it was worth every penny.

I am a couple of months away from my first egg and into this chicken thing for more that I choose to add up. However, these chickens and the process of preparing for them and taking care of them have provided me with very special time with my grandchildren.

My granddaughter (9 years old) had a chicken roost on her head! My 2 year old grandson feeds the chickens treats, and my granddaughter fed them strawberries she held in her mouth! Ouch!

Cost of my first egg -- maybe $1000.
Teaching and bonding with my granddaughter -- priceless!

You must know something I don't. I've been at this nearly 50 years & mine are no where near that cheap!
