I’ve been planning on taking pictures for a long time. These eggs are from one of my best Buff Orpington layers. She lays almost every day even though the weather has most of my hens at about 50%. She started with just a small wrinkle in the end of her shell but it is seems to be getting more and more misshaped as time goes on. Anyone had this experience? I’m afraid the end result will be very bad

I don’t expect this is a phase since she has had an odd shaped egg for almost 5 months or so.

This same hen did lay a soft shell egg yesterday and I could see the rough design on the soft shell well enough to identify that it was her egg.

We have been been eating these eggs and they appear to be just fine inside.

Any comments?

They have Oyster Shell and appears to be very healthy... I have babied these pullets since they were baby chicks. She is the only one who has this problem....

Odly she is my best layer and lays the largest egg of the whole BO flock

"Misshapen eggs

These differ from middle-banded eggs in having a range of distortions, including soft ends and uneven or ribbed surfaces. Thin patches or excessively chalky areas may also be seen. They are more common with older hens, but may also indicate a disease such as Infectious bronchitis or egg drop syndrome (either present or past). If the condition persists, veterinary advice should be sought."

Wrinkled shells also seem to be common in older birds. How old is yours.

Should she be culled? I don't think her egg was ever normal. She is about 10 - 11 months old. Is it safe to eat the eggs? Could she pass it on to the rest of the flock?

I would look up your local farm vet and get her seen, bronchitis can easily be treated without her endangering the flock. She is a pretty girl!
