Hi am a new member and this is my first post. I bought 2 rhode island red hens at a feed store a few months ago. I also have 3 other hens of a different breed. Just the other day one of the hens started making a rooster crow at 5:00 in the morning. I heard of butch hens before. Is this possible? This hen who thinks she is a rooster is twice the size as the others and her colors are so beautiful with greenish tail feathers. She even looks different from the other hens.

Got pics? Could it be possible that you have a roo and not a hen? If the bird is still young then sometimes it can be hard to tell.

has this hen layed eggs yet? Sounds to me like your hen is a rooster which would explain why it looks so much different than the other hens. Welcome to BYC [IMG]

It would probibly be a roo if it is different and colorful, but sometimes it is very hard to tell.

Your hen may well be a rooster.

Pics should help clarify this, if you can post some.
