My hen was setting on 10 eggs!

I found on of my hens all by herself hiding. I shood her off the nest she was on and found 10 eggs. She goes in the coop every night so she would have had to be laying there at least 10 days, right? Are the eggs i found any good to eat?

Why did you shoo her off of her nest? Sounds like she was broody. I would not eat those egs.

I just wanted to see if she laid any eggs. i didn't think the clutch would be so big. All our chickens go in at night, and those nights were cold. Around 60 degrees or so. We didn't think anything would happen because she wasn't on them 24/7.

We didn't eat the eggs and she hasn't been broody ever since. Do you know why? She's been laying, I think, but like the others, she lays then leaves,

She will go broody again she is ready. The next time you see her or another hen just staying in the nesting box and not moving (couple days or more) and if you stick your hand in the nesting box, she pecks you, then she may be broody.
