My hens are driving me nuts

The noise is horrendous. I live on an acre but the neighbors can hear it. It is not the egg song, they do this before they lay. They have just started laying so I'm hoping it will calm down soon.

They get in the box, jump out, get back in, get out all the while making this horrific noise. Sounds like Waaaaaaaaaaaaa bac bac bac bac. Over and over and over again.

I am really afraid my neighbors are going to complain soon because it is so loud.

Have you checked your box to make sure that nothing is in there that they dont like?
It sounds like mine do when they are in a tiff about something.

Mine have just started laying about a week ago and I have a couple that do the same thing. They make a huge racket before they finally lay an egg and then it all begins again. They have nice nest boxes and plenty of fresh hay and shavings in there. I'm thinking too that this will calm down as they get used to it and get into the routine of things. I have one RIR that doesn't say a word before or after, just lays an egg and goes about her business!

I have 6 Golden comets who make a screaming racket in the morning well before they are laying. They are 18 months old or so, bought them about a month ago.

I would check the nesting boxes and the coop to make sure their is nothing in there. When a snake was getting into my coop the hens would start to make that noise. They make that noise everytime they are startled by something. Normally they are quite calm and quiet. If you are concerned about the noise i would probably go to the neighbors to see if it is bothering them. Good luck!

i got one hen that has to visit the nest boxes a couple hunderd times, before and after laying, the bad thing is she is throwing all the bedding out of nests so when other hens go to lay they end up cracking the shell as there is no bedding..........i'll go put it all back and after i walk away she goes right back in there and removes it all.

I ended up rehoming the 2 Orpingtons. If one was in the nest box the other would make such a racket I could hear it from inside my house while working in my office. I have never heard such loud noise, and it went on and on and on...So now all I have is my quiet brahma's
