my hens aren't brooding

i have 4 hens (2 mystic onyx and 2 dang it the name escapes me but they look orangish red) with 2 sapphire roosters. even the roosters are 2 different sapphire breeds. well anyway, none of the 4 hens are sitting on the eggs. it's like they lay an egg, maybe sit for a few hours then they get up and move from it. they never return to it. the next day we return to find another egg has been laid in the same areas as the other egg, but again, none of the hens are sitting on them. next year we were thinking about buying an incubator to put the eggs in. so far since nobody has been laying on them, we've just been taking them in and eating them. we'd like to build our flock up the natural way. does anybody have any idea why none of the hens are sitting on any of the eggs?

Not every bird will go broody (until you really don't want to deal with chicks. Then they all will ). Some people claim you can encourage them, but I don't believe it. It just depends on their instincts and hormones.
