My hens eye is swollen. Not sure of the cause! Help!

And I know this is an odd question, but do I need to get some sterile water somewhere or will saline solution that we use be ok to flush it out with before I put the vetericyn in?
Saline eye wash is fine to use or you can make your own sterile saline solution at home.

For Eyes:
Mix 2teaspoons table salt to a quart of water, bring to boil, reduce to a simmer for 15minutes. Cool. Store in a sanitized jar for up to 24hrs, then make fresh.

Looks like she may have pus in the eye that needs to be pushed out.

I'd continue to treat with saline, push out any pus, then put Terramycin eye ointment in the eye.

Do you detect any odor?

What do you treat your flock with when you have an MG outbreak?
Tylosin, Denagard/Tiagard (Tiamulin)? I'd also start that too.
Here are some updated photos. When I felt around her eye tonight, up above it where its swollen, it felt hard almost...kind of where that white looking tissue is showing. I think i can actually see her eye when i pull the lid back towards her back. I think the swelled tissue sticks out so much its just pushed to where its not visible much. Underneath the eye opening is pretty soft still though. I think it still hurts her pretty bad for me to even touch it, so i didnt want to mess with it like squeezing it and irritate it more. I took a picture from the front just to get a different angle of the swelling. I flushed it out with saline, and put more vetericyn in it, and started her on tiagard in water tonight also. She is still eating and drinking fine too.

If possible, I'd get some Terramycin eye ointment to put into the eye.

Try warm compresses to see if you can start to help loosen up the pus so it can be pressed out.

Chicken pus is firm, so with the tissue feeling hard, that's likely what it is. Hopefully with continuing to treat the eye along with the Tiamulin, she will start to feel better soon.

There aren't any vets around me that will see chickens and its saying that you have to have an rx to get that eye ointment...any suggestions for somewhere online possibly that delivers quick. I just dont wanna make her wait longer than I have to.

I'll very much second the saline flushes. I had a pullet with a swollen eye and no other symptoms. Started saline flushes and it made a huge difference. By the time I got her to the vet she'd improved quite a bit.

The vet told me that the way their eye/sinus system works, debris or swelling can cause the whole eye area to swell because it all gets backed up. Frequent (like 3 times per day) saline flushes help move things along.

I hope she improves soon!

If you are in the US you can order Terramycin online, find it at TSC, etc.

In the meantime, you can use Original Neosporin if you have that.

Amazon sells many brands of this product. Where are you, generally? CA requires a prescription, most other states do not.

Jedd's sells it too, but just check and they are sold out.

I see several on sale at Amazon. If you can't find it or can't order from there, here are places you can get some prescription drugs for chickens, or other animals that will work for chickens, online. I didn't check who has it in stock or prices.

Im in kentucky, I was going to see if my TSC did, and they did online, but mentioned rx was needed. I seen the ones on Amazon, but didnt see the one with the actual terramycin name. The ones I found didnt list any ingredients so I wasnt sure if it was the right stuff.
