my hen is currently laying on eggs. I checked up on her each day and one day her eyes were halfway closed and her face was full of dust and her skin was peeling off. I’m pretty sure she’s been scraping her eye on a rock in her nest but It got worse and her eyes are 3/4 closed. I’ve been putting cocunut oil on her face. What else can I do?

looks like mites. Separate her(although the whole flock will need to be dusted). She will probably need daily treatments. I would dust her and then apply Vaseline everyday

I'd suggest getting some fluids into her. With electrolytes! And stop the coconut oil, maybe she's having an allergic reaction to it and it's making her very itchy.
Is she eating /drinking at all?
Also please,if you can, remove the rock to prevent her from rubbing on it and causing further damage.
What other info can you provide?
I'm sure the experts will be coming soon!

It’s not the cocunut oil. We gave it to her when the stuff happened. Shes is eating and drinking fine. For now, I’m putting her inside the house with her eggs until she gets better

I thi k you might need to treat this as an emergency. How is her weight? Is her keel (breast bone) protruding? If she is in bad shape from mites, they can take her down quickly. How long has she been broody? Is she not dust bathing because of the broodiness? Please give her poultry vitamins and electrolytes in her water if you have it. Is she drinking? Can you provide water and feed right close to her nest? My hen got broody last spring and I had to periodically lift her off the eggs to get her to eat and drink something (these were not fertile eggs, so I eventually took them away permanently when I felt she was getting too thin). Pleaae keep us posted.

I agree with @micstrachan for checking her over for lice/mites and ensuring she is eating/drinking well. Add poultry vitamins to her water for a couple of days and give her some extra protein like egg, tuna or meat for a boost.
Some girls are so dedicated, they don't take care of themselves properly - so sometimes you have to intervene.

For the face - she may have a skin disease, scaly face mites or something like Favus which is a fungal disease. You could try applying some anti-fungal cream (athlete's foot cream) to see if that makes a difference. Also, it looks like one of her nares (nostrils) may be plugged up - you may want to see if you can unclog it - take a qtip dipped in Peroxide and hold it to just the plugged up area - see if you can work out the plug with an orange stick or similar.

Here eyes look weak to me - so if they are watery or seem irritated - you can gently rinse them with saline and apply a tiny bit of an ophthalmic product like Vetericyn eye gel or similar to the eye for comfort.

I hope she get better soon, please keep us posted.
